Several Known Hotels in Palm Springs California
Some of the more notable hotels in Palm Springs California are:
Casa Cody Inn -This pretty bed and breakfast was built during the Roaring ‘20’s by Harriet Cody and has Southwestern flavored rooms, a garden, a pool and lovely and filling buffet breakfasts. Moreover, it’s a short walk from Palm Springs’ downtown area. The suites have kitchens, and if the guest is coming with their family they might want to rent out the delightful two bedroom adobe cottage.
The Orbit In - This is a retro 50’s style establishment that offers studios with private patios. The guest is welcomed with a complimentary Orbitini. The hotel has free bike rentals, continental breakfasts and clean and welcoming rooms. Curiously, the Orbit In is for adults only and guests are required to stay at least two nights, or three if they spring for the midweek escape deal. This package is a little cheaper than weekend rates.
The Calla Lily – The Calla Lily Inn is another retro ‘50’s style hotel with only nine rooms and suites designed around a turquoise blue, heated swimming pool surrounded by patio furniture, palm trees and a cabana. There’s also a spa and free bike rental, at least for an hour. The beds are king sized, and the rooms come with robes and Wi-Fi, TVs with DVDs and VCRs, irons and ironing boards and a fridge and coffee maker. The guest is given a whole bottle of good, complimentary California wine when they check in. The Calla Lily is one of the places that drops their rates in summer.
The Willows – Located in West Tahquitz Canyon, the Willows used to be the abode of William Mead and later Samuel Untermyer, who had Einstein over as a guest once. Other visitors included Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, and Shirley Temple, and it shows in the beautiful, large rooms with ceiling beams made of polished mahogany, the desert gardens and the food service. The rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi and DVD players. The guest can enjoy the view of Mount San Jacinto, or wander into Palm Springs’ downtown for some shopping. The guest can even hold their wedding at this beautiful location and honeymoon there afterwards.
Ingleside Inn – The Ingleside is all that’s left of the original hotels in Palm Springs California. It was built in 1935 and was a favorite of the Hollywood elite, who’d pop into Palm Springs for a round of golf or other, less reputable types of fun. Every room at the Ingleside is different from the others, and some are embellished with antiques. The rooms have private patios and a pool, which is standard for even the cheapest Palm Springs motel. Melvyn’s, their on-site restaurant, is world renown. Classy and unobtrusive, Melvyn’s is famous for its veal with avocado and mousseline sauce and its well-stocked bar. The restaurant, of course, is expensive and guests should make reservations.
The Villa Royale Inn – Like the Ingleside, the Villa Royale’s rooms, villas and suites are all delightfully different from each other, with beautiful, elegant furnishings. They too are built around a pool. Most of the rooms and suites have Jacuzzis. In the winter, when the heat is tolerable, the guest can have meals and drinks ordered from the on-site Europa restaurant.
Terrazzo – This is a men’s resort where the clothing is optional and the service is excellent. There are only twelve rooms and they’re clustered around the pool. The guest can have free transport to and from the airport, and the resort has its own gym. Given that this place is in torrid Palm Springs, the Terrazzo also provides the guest with free sun screen.
Casitas Laquita – Not to be outdone by Terrazzo, this private resort is for the ladies, and has a Native American flavor. The rooms are really apartments, with kitchens, private bathrooms and in some, a fireplace.
